Vince is a Two-Time National Champion on Old-Time Banjo having taken 1st at Uncle Dave Macon Days in Murfreesboro TN in 1987 and 1996.

The old time banjo catagory in the music competition at the festival was slated by Congress as the Nationals in 1987.
He also took first place in 2001 on Old time banjo at Glenville, the West Virginia State Folk Festival.

Uncle Dave Macon was the first star of the Grand Old Opry and was from around Murfreesboro Tennessee which is about 25 miles south of Nashville.
The festival in his name is an annual event and in 1987 the contest was held on the front porch of the court house which during the Civil War
was used as a hospital for the confederates and overflow patients were placed on the same porch.

Vince first heard old-time music in 1972 While on a summer hitchiking trip from N.Y. to West Virginia.
On a stop in DC the The Highwoods Stringband were performing at the Folklife festival and the experience changed his life.
The good-natured energy of the band and the drive of the music made a deep impression. Upon arriving in Morgantown he heard
more old-time and attended some festivals like Ivydale and Glenville and the seed was sewn.
Back in Rockland County NY banjo lessons were being offered in a local community craft school which turned out to be
in the old time Clawhammer style, and by 1975 he had moved to West Virginia to pursue it further.
